Ralf Ghijsen

A magic show that teaches about human connection

Step into Ralf's world, where magic, teaching, and science converge. From a young age, he has been on stage—first as an entertainer, later as a professional magician. But what has always fascinated him most is something different: the connection with his audience. How does trust develop? How do you capture someone's attention? And why does one conversation flow effortlessly while another feels strained? These questions led him to education, where he now guides future teachers at Fontys and completed his master's degree in human communication. His sessions are no standard lectures. Live magic tricks are performed and unraveled as metaphor: the principles that make a trick succeed are precisely the same ones that make a conversation or a team work.

Biography

From Magic Stage to Classroom

Ralf Ghijsen is a speaker, educator and magician. An unusual combination, but one that makes perfect sense to him. Whether he's speaking to a room full of educators, coaching a team or teaching students at Fontys, it always comes down to the same thing: making genuine contact with the people around you. He's been on stage since childhood. First as an entertainer, later as a professional magician. But connecting with his audience has always fascinated him most. How does trust develop? How do you capture someone's attention? And why does one conversation feel so easy while another feels so strained? That curiosity led him to education. He studied at the Pedagogisch Technische Hogeschool, taught for years at vocational and secondary schools, and now coaches future educators at Fontys. He completed his master's degree in which he investigated how human communication works and how technology such as AI can create interference in it.

Ralf on stage

His sessions are no standard lectures. He takes his audience on an experience full of interaction, humor and wonder. Live magic tricks are not only performed, but also unraveled as a metaphor for how we interact with each other. Because the principles that make a magic trick succeed (attention, expectation, trust, surprise) are exactly the same ones that make a conversation, collaboration or team succeed.

Experienced speaker throughout the Netherlands

Ralf now speaks throughout the Netherlands for a wide range of organizations, from schools and care institutions to large companies and conferences. An international highlight was his contribution to ICERI in Seville, a major education congress. Whether he stands before an intimate group of 10 people or a room of 800, his goal is always the same: to make people really look at each other again.

Nowadays

These days, Ralf combines his three worlds: the stage, the classroom, and science. He guides teams and organizations through sessions that leave a lasting impact, teaches the educators of tomorrow, and has completed his master's degree on the power and pitfalls of human communication. Always with one mission: to bring back the magic of genuine connection.

Themes

  • Real connection in a digital world

We live in an era of rapid digital communication, yet it is precisely in this context that the art of genuine connection is increasingly lost. Ralf shows you how to build attention and trust, even when everything around you is distracting, with insights from psychology and the practice of magic.

  • The Psychology of Connection

Why does one conversation flow effortlessly while another feels strained? Ralf makes the invisible mechanisms behind human interaction visible. He shows how expectations shape our behavior and how you can break through them for genuine connection.

  • Attention as a Superpower

In a world that constantly demands your attention, focus has become a rare commodity. Ralf shares practical insights from the world of magic about how you can direct, maintain and focus attention on what really matters.

  • Laughing together, growing together

Humor and wonder are not sidelines, but essential ingredients for strong team dynamics. Ralf doesn't use them as a garnish, but as a tool to open people up, connect them, and help them discover together.

  • From Illusion to Insight

A magic trick is an illusion. But the principles behind it are deadly serious. Ralf reveals live what happens when we allow ourselves to be surprised and how those same mechanisms work in our everyday communication. Not a theoretical story, but an experience that takes you along.

Why Ralf

  • Experienced entertainer

With a lifetime of stage experience, first as a magician, later as a speaker, Ralf feels completely in his element when standing in front of a group. He knows how to captivate an audience, hold their attention, and take them on a journey.

  • Teacher through and through

Ralf is not only a speaker for groups, he also does it daily in the classroom. For years he taught at vocational and secondary schools, and now he coaches the teachers of tomorrow at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. So he knows not only how to captivate an audience, but also how to truly transfer knowledge.

  • Evidence-based

What Ralf shares is not merely a gut feeling. His completed master's degree in human communication and technology provides him with a solid theoretical foundation. He combines practical experience with current scientific insights and translates that into accessible, engaging sessions.

  • Entertainer with substance

Ralf delivers his knowledge in a practical, directly applicable way, with plenty of humor and wonder. This makes it feel more like an experience than a heavy lecture for the audience. They laugh, get surprised, and go home with new insights.

  • Sparks curiosity

Ralf doesn't leave his audience with answers, but with good questions. Because he believes that real change starts with curiosity. After his session, people want to know more about themselves, about each other, and about how they can truly connect.

  • Applicable to everyone

The insights that Ralf shares go far beyond the workplace—they inspire people to communicate differently in their personal lives as well. Because whether you're teaching a class, leading a team, or simply wanting to have a better conversation, it always comes down to connection.
