Denice Dest grew up in Amsterdam and built a career that refused to follow a plan. For years she stood at the doors of Amsterdam clubs and underground parties at night — a period that taught her to read in an instant whether the energy in a room was right. Later she took the stage as a stand-up comedian, where timing is everything and an audience punishes you mercilessly the moment you lose the connection.

As host of First Dates on BNNVARA, Denice welcomes complete strangers every recording day who make themselves vulnerable, both for the camera and for each other. Her task is not to make people date, but to create an environment in just a few minutes where they dare to open up.
